Lateral Minimally invasive approach
Lateral Minimally invasive approach to the lumbar spine (LLIF or XLIF)
It is a very useful type of surgery in certain cases of degenerative scoliosis of the lumbar spine, associated with canal stenosis or spondylolisthesis, with this procedure, it is possible to improve both low back pain and gait claudication.
It consists of accessing the lumbar spine through a small incision on the side, while the nerves of the lumbosacral plexus are monitored with electrodes.
Upon reaching the spine, the intervertebral disc is replaced by an implant that corrects the curvature of scoliosis, at the same time fixes the joint and widens the hole through which the nerves exit.
